The Labrador Winter Games is truly Labrador's premier sporting and cultural event. The preparation, organization and coordination of an event of this magnitude is a work in progress months before any athletes arrive in the central Labrador region. After all this planning and hard work is completed, it seems as though the games are here and gone in the blink of an eye.

Behind the scenes are countless dedicated and skilled individuals who invest many hours of their personal time to ensure the Labrador Winter Games are a huge success. For the last seven months, Committee Chairs along with the Board of Directors have been meeting regularly to plan and review every detail and possible scenario in relation to the games.

The volunteer aspect of the Labrador Winter Games is not solely found in the host community of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. In each community of Labrador who are taking part in the games, one can see a Community Coordinator volunteering his or her time recruiting athletes from their respective community. This recruiting and training of athletes is not completed by the Community Coordinator alone, but requires help from many other individuals in the community who want to support their community's endeavors. Each community will also have many dedicated athletes training and practicing with the intent of representing their community with honor, integrity and most of all pride. It is amazing to see the immense support that these athletes receive, as it is these very athletes that the Games are all about.

Even though the Labrador Winter Games will include athletes and communities from all over Labrador, there will be unity through the comradery of competition and heart of the participating athletes. To all competitors, coordinators, staff, and numerous volunteers, a wish of sportsmanship and solidarity is extended.
