Message from the Mayor
On behalf of Council and the citizens of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, I wish to extend a very sincere welcome to all athletes, coaches, community representatives and special guests to our community.

The Labrador Winter Games is a unique tradition of sport and culture here in Labrador. These games have evolved into the premier event for all of Labrador. The Olympics of the North, also know as the Friendship Games, provide the people of Labrador the opportunity to come together, to compete, challenge ourselves, share and re-kindle friendships.

The spirit of competition and the joy of participation continue to be the drive behind this event. But without the generous financial support of both the Provincial and Federal Government and sponsors these games would not be possible. For this we all must be thankful.

I would also like to congratulate the organizing committee and all the volunteers for your hard work, commitment and dedication. You all play a major role in the success of these games.

Best of luck to all the athletes; enjoy the games and most importantly, have fun!

Sincerely,

Leo Abbass
Mayor

Through the hard work and dedication of more than 500 volunteers, the Labrador Winter Games remains a first-class celebration of physical activity, participation in sport, and strength and resilience of Labrador's culture, heritage and people.
